Living With Sleep Apnea; What To Do When You Are Diagnosed

Having your sleep apnea diagnosed by your physician is important; however, some options for self-help may be beneficial to you. Dropping weight or dropping cigarettes are good ideas; more so for victims of sleep apnea. Coffee, caffeine and alcohol should also be avoided before bed.

Speak with a doctor if you think you have sleep apnea. This disease can not only make your life miserable, but it can in some cases endanger your life. If one of your loved ones snores each night relentlessly or mentions any other sleep apnea symptoms, talk to a physician right away.

Do not neglect your CPAP machine if it has been prescribed to you. Using a CPAP while sleeping is a tough adjustment for many patients to make. Four hours of use every night is the minimum necessary time you need to realize the benefits of CPAP therapy. If you still have trouble adjusting, get at least four hours and try to add more time each night.
